Add Colors to Gmail with Themes Feature

For those of you who think that Gmail’s interface looks dull, here comes Gmail themes. With this new feature, you can customize your Gmail to your likes.
Gmail now gives you the option of selecting from its collection of themes such as New Blue, Steel, Green Sky, Shiny, Beach, Mountains and many more.

To enable this feature, go to ‘settings’, and choose ‘themes’ from the tabbed menu. Then just click on the theme you desire ….as simple as that.
There are many more functionalities of Gmail that are in beta stage like mouse gestures and pictures in chat, and if you like to test them out, go to ‘Labs’ from the ‘settings’ page.

Chat in Video and Audio within Gmail

Google adds another feature to their popular mail application, Gmail, in the form of Video and Audio chat.
Now you no longer have to open an Instant Messenger program to Voice or Audio chat with your friends and colleagues. You just need to download a small one-time-auto-install plug-in, and the rest is taken care by Gmail.

To start a Video/Audio chat, you just have to click the ‘Video & more’ menu at the bottom of your chat window and select ‘Start Video Chat’.

Currently, only PCs and Macs are supported.

Gmail adds Emoticons Feature

Do you use emoticons (aka smileys) in your emails? Unlike the messenger programs like MSN, mail applications don’t normally convert your smileys to images while sending the mail. The problem with that is not everyone can understand those brackets, colons and semi-colons.

But you don’t need to worry anymore because Gmail labs has added emoticons feature called Technicolor Emoticons to your Gmail. While sending the mail, Gmail will automatically convert your smiley codes into images. And you also get to choose Gmail’s exclusive emoticons collection.

Gmail is now 20% faster

Gmail guys say that they have increased the speed of their online mail application by almost 20%, but when I tried to open , I found no difference whatsoever.
Gmail Blog says “…One of the areas we worked on was the initial loading sequence: everything that happens behind the scenes between the time you press the “Sign in” button on the login page and the moment you land in your inbox.”

“…This is taking longer than usual – message you might see when loading Gmail over a slow connection, we’ve seen a real reduction (up to 20%) in overall load time compared to when we started.”

Well, I guess only those of you who are on Dial-up connection would feel the difference. By the way, who is still using Dial-up?
